The third umpire gave his decision and declared Malik out LBW. According to this rule, if the on-field umpire is not sure whether a player is LBW out, then he can take the help of the TV umpire for this. It is worth mentioning that the TV umpire was first used during India’s tour of South Africa in 1991/92. Whereas Hawk High technology in cricket started being used in international matches from 1996. On the other hand, the LBW by DRS rule was first used in the Sri Lanka vs Pakistan match in the Champions Trophy in 2002. In the match, Waqar Younus decided to bat and young Shoaib Malik came to bat in the fourth over. Chaminda Vaas bowled a straight ball to Malik and it hit his pad. As soon as the Sri Lankan bowler appealed, onfield umpire Daryl Harper decided to seek the help of television umpire Rudi Koertzen. But as soon as the TV umpire gave his decision, Shoaib Malik became the first player to be given out LBW by DRS rule.
