I have spent most of my life there.” “What a story that would be” – Ben Curran Ben Curran realises that playing for Zimbabwe will be a great achievement for him. Interestingly, next year England will host Zimbabwe and Ben might have the opportunity to play against one of his brothers. He said, “What a story it would be if it happened. Probably a little weird, special and mixed emotions. But it would be even more special for my mother.” “I will complete the journey like my father” – Ben Curran Ben Curran’s journey is similar to that of his father Kevin Curran, who played cricket for both Zimbabwe and Northamptonshire. He said- “It’s a full circle. My dad played for Northampton and now I can play for Zimbabwe, where he played and coached.” Ben Curran is currently preparing for the upcoming season with the Mid-West Rhinos and is focused on performing consistently. He said- “I just have to perform and take care of what is in my control. That will give me the best chance to move forward.”

A new cricket stadium will soon be built in Zimbabwe, the government has given 10 hectares of land

Funded by ICC, Zimbabwe to get new cricket stadium in Victoria Falls costing up to $10 million. (Photo Source: Copilot) Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa recently laid the foundation stone for a new cricket stadium near Victoria Falls, a major tourist attraction in his country. The stadium will be named Mosi-oa-Tunya International Cricket Stadium and will have a capacity of about 10,000. Furthermore, the stadium will host world class events in 2026 and 2027, as Zimbabwe Cricket will host the Under-19 World Cup along with Namibia in 2026, while South Africa will join the two countries in hosting the 2027 World Cup. Zimbabwe’s new stadium will be built on 10 hectares of land It is worth noting that the Zimbabwean government has allocated 10 hectares of land for this stadium which will be funded by the ICC. The cost of construction will reportedly be between $5 and $10 million, but the ICC has stated that there will be no further contribution from their side to the project. “The location of this stadium in this city will undoubtedly provide greater benefits to the tourism sector and contribute to our national development aspirations as outlined in the National Development Strategy Vision 2030,” President Mnangagwa was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz. He further added, “As Zimbabwe Cricket, we are the first to admit that our stadiums are no longer adequate, we had to keep some fans out during the 2023 World Cup qualifiers, but we don’t want to do that again. We want as many people as possible to access our grounds and we want them to have a great experience when they come to the ground.” Also, the Board’s Media and Communications Manager, Darlington Majonga came forward and highlighted the importance of hosting such major tournaments and how the construction of the new stadium will help them host such events.
