India’s 15-member squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup to be held in USA and West Indies is likely to be announced in the last week of April. Let us tell you that all the countries will have to give their teams for the T20 World Cup to the International Cricket Council (ICC) by May 1. All the teams will get a chance to make changes in their initial team till May 25.
A senior BCCI source told PTI on condition of anonymity that the Indian team will be selected during the last week of April and by this time the first part of the Indian Premier League will be over by which the National Selection Committee will assess the form and fitness of the contenders. There will be benefit in doing so.
Team India will leave for New York on May 19
The source said the first group of cricketers will leave for New York soon after the league stage of the IPL ends on May 19. Players whose teams do not qualify for the Final Four will also soon travel to the USA, just like what happened during the WTC Finals last year.
The tournament will begin on June 2, where the match will be played between co-hosts USA and West Indies at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas. India’s campaign in the tournament begins on June 5 against Ireland at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. Meanwhile, India and arch-rivals Pakistan will face each other on the same ground on June 9.
