The first match of the three-match T20 series between England and Australia was played on 11 September. In the first match, Australia defeated England by 28 runs and took a 1-0 lead in the three-match T20 series. The host failed to show a great performance in the first T20.

In this match, Jofra Archer and Saqib Mahmood bowled very well for England. Not only this, both of them together completed a team hat-trick. This was seen during the 18th and 19th overs of Australia’s innings. Jofra Archer came to bowl the 18th over of Australia’s innings. He bowled Sean Abbott on the fifth ball of this over and then dismissed Xavier Bartlett on the last ball, putting Australia on the backfoot.

Both these players had no answer to Jofra Archer’s yorker. While Abbott was out after scoring four runs, Xavier Bartlett returned to the pavilion without opening his account. Not only this, Saqib Mahmood, who came to bowl the 19th over of Australia’s innings, completed the team’s hat-trick by bowling Cameron Green on the very first ball. Cameron Green also failed to play a big innings in this match and was out after scoring 13 runs.

Australia beat England in the first T20

Talking about the match, Australia batted first and scored 179 runs losing all wickets in 19.3 overs. Matthew Short played an innings of 41 runs for the team while Travis Head scored 59 runs in 23 balls with the help of 8 fours and 4 sixes. Both these players added 86 runs in six overs for the first wicket.

Captain Mitchell Marsh failed to play a big innings and was dismissed after scoring two runs. Wicketkeeper batsman Josh English contributed 37 runs. For England, Jofra Archer took two wickets for 31 runs in 3.3 overs while Saqib Mahmood took 2 wickets for 21 runs in three overs. Liam Livingstone took three wickets.

In reply, the host was all out for 151 runs. Liam Livingstone scored 37 runs for the team while captain Phil Salt was out after scoring 20 runs. Sam Curran contributed 18 runs. Sean Abbott took three wickets for Australia while Josh Hazlewood and Adam Jampa took two wickets each.
