This is the best innings I have seen, chasing 300+ against Pakistan… So you (Virat Kohli) have come a long way – Gautam Gambhir
The Indian cricket team is set to play a two-match Test series at home against Bangladesh from Thursday, September 19. Meanwhile, ahead of the series, head coach Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli talked about a lot of things, including their spat, the 2011 World Cup and their cricketing journey so far.
Gautam Gambhir opened up about Virat Kohli’s success in international cricket. The head coach believes that King Kohli has established a legacy that will be followed by generations to come.
Gautam Gambhir said these things in praise of Virat Kohli
In a video shared by BCCI, head coach Gautam Gambhir also talked about Virat Kohli’s innings played against Pakistan in Asia Cup 2012. According to Gambhir, this is the best innings played by an Indian in ODI cricket history.
In that match against Pakistan, Gambhir was out on zero while chasing a target of 330 runs. Virat changed the entire game by scoring 183 runs while batting at number three and Team India registered a spectacular victory by 6 wickets in the match.
Gautam Gambhir said in the video,
I saw you make your debut. Played a very good, crucial innings on a difficult wicket against West Indies in the Champions Trophy in South Africa (England), against a very good attack, and then probably the best ODI innings played by an Indian. This is not entirely based on any point of view, because players have scored double centuries. This is the best innings I have seen, chasing 300+ against Pakistan… So you have come a long way. These are really special things and the most important thing is how you have taken Indian cricket forward, the legacy you have left for the next generation.
Let us tell you, in December 2009, when Virat Kohli scored a century in the ODI match against Sri Lanka, Gautam Gambhir played an innings of 150 runs in the same match and was selected as the Player of the Match. But in the post-match presentation, Gambhir handed over his award to young Virat.
Gambhir and Virat have played a big role in helping Team India win many big matches. But both of them have made headlines due to their clashes on the field. However, now all things are in the past and now both are working together for the betterment of Indian cricket.
