If media reports are to be believed, the final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be held on May 26 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. It was also told that Qualifier 1 and Eliminator will be played at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad while the second qualifier will be played in Chennai.
A senior BCCI official was quoted by PTI as saying, “The IPL Governing Council has followed the tradition of holding the opening matches and the final at the home ground of last year’s defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Let us tell you that there was a tradition of holding the start of IPL and its final match on the home ground of the previous season’s champion team.
However, after Covid arrived in 2020, this rule could not be followed. Last time also the IPL final was held in Ahmedabad as Gujarat Titans won the title in 2022. It is believed that this will be the last IPL season of former CSK captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and after this season Mahi will retire from this tournament.
CSK won the fifth IPL title last season
Chepauk Stadium is the home ground of CSK. Chennai won the IPL title last year under the captaincy of Dhoni and this was the fifth title in IPL history for his team. If CSK team is successful in reaching the finals, then Chennai fans can once again get a chance to see their favorite captain Dhoni playing on home ground.
