Recently, Root has become the player who has scored the most test runs for England.
Veteran batsman Joe Root has recently overtaken former England captain Alastair Cook in terms of scoring the most runs in Test cricket. Root achieved this feat on the third day of the first Test match against Pakistan at Multan Cricket Stadium.
As soon as Root scored 71 runs in the match, he became the first player from England to score the highest runs in Test cricket. Before Root, Cook had scored a total of 12472 runs while playing 161 Test matches for England. But it took only 147 matches for Root to leave this figure behind.
Apart from this, Root has now reached 5th position in terms of scoring most runs in Test cricket. He is just 816 runs behind former Indian player Rahul Dravid (13288), who is at fourth place.
On the other hand, after Root made this great record, England’s Test captain and all-rounder Ben Stokes has given a big statement. Stokes says that people have a lot of time to break his record.
Ben Stokes gave a big statement regarding Joe Root
Let us tell you that after Joe Root made this record, Ben Stokes while talking to ECB said – Yes, I have played a lot of cricket with Joe Root. And have played against him a lot too. We have grown up together. To score so many runs you would think that he would have to be a little selfish as a player, but not so, he is completely dedicated to the team.
Stokes further said- From my perspective when I saw how many centuries Joe Root has scored and how many matches we have won. Were we over or under the line because of his century, but when I look at him he is like a stick.
The selflessness that he possesses is an incredible quality. He always puts the team first. The fact is that he has scored so many runs and there is plenty of time for someone else to break his record. He is an incredible player.
