In the match against Namibia, Oman batted first and was all out for 109 runs in 19.4 overs. In response, the Namibian team, while chasing the target, could only score 109 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs. After the match was drawn, a super over was played. David Wiese and Gerhard Erasmus came out to bat for Namibia. David Wiese scored 13 runs in 4 balls with the help of a four and a six.
Captain Gerhard scored 8 runs in 2 balls with the help of two fours. Namibia scored 21 runs in the super over without losing any wicket. Oman’s team could not chase the target of 22 runs. Namibia’s player David Wiese gave only 10 runs while bowling and took one wicket.
The first super over took place between New Zealand and Sri Lanka in 2012
The first super over in the history of T20 World Cup was played between New Zealand and Sri Lanka on 27 September 2012. In this match, New Zealand team scored 174 runs while batting first. Sri Lanka was able to score the same number of runs while chasing the target, and the match was tied. Sri Lanka scored 13 runs in the super over. The Kiwi team was able to score only 7 runs while chasing the target, and they had to lose the match.
The second super over of the T20 World Cup also took place in 2012 between West Indies and New Zealand. West Indies scored 139 runs while batting first. Then the Kiwi team also scored 139 runs while chasing the target. After which the super over was played. New Zealand scored 17 runs in the super over, West Indies then scored 19 runs in the super over and won the match.
