Former Indian cricketer Venkatapathy Raju has given such a statement on Yuzvendra Chahal being excluded from both T20 and ODI format teams for India’s upcoming Sri Lanka tour, which has started a war again. It is worth noting that due to Chahal not being given a chance in the team for a long time, this matter has become a topic of discussion in the cricket world.

Talking about this, Raju said that Chahal is a great bowler, but the team is currently focusing on all-rounders. Due to which players like Ravindra Jadeja and Akshar Patel were given preference over Chahal, who is also a specialist bowler and batsman.

Raju said that because of these all-rounder players, it is becoming very challenging for any specialist bowler to secure a place in the playing 11.

As quoted by the Times of India, Venkatapathy Raju said-

“You should always believe in yourself. Chahal has been a fantastic bowler. But unfortunately, we focus more on all-rounders. That’s why we had Jadeja, then we had Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav. If Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja are part of the squad then you cannot keep them away from the playing 11.”

“Yuzi is a fantastic bowler, but he got dropped because he hasn’t played enough matches. It’s not like you’re getting old or anything is taken away from you. You can always play good matches, come back and perform well. Now, the biggest problem for all selectors is that there is so much variety in choosing players now.”

“It takes real courage to pick someone with such a variety. Hopefully he will play a lot of domestic cricket and come back stronger.”
