Former star all-rounder player of India Irfan Pathan said that the former five-time champion Mumbai Indians (MI) is not playing unitedly in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. They faced a 24-run defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium on Friday, May 3. After this defeat, Irfan Pathan has said a lot about the Mumbai camp.

After the match, Pathan was asked why Mumbai Indians failed to chase the score of 170 on their home ground, that too against a team that has given away more than 200 on four occasions this season. The cricketer turned commentator said that there was nothing in the pitch and apart from Suryakumar, no one tried to help MI win.

Mumbai team does not seem to be playing united at all – Irfan Pathan

Analyzing the match on Star Sports, Irfan Pathan said, “That too at Wankhede where the ground is small and when it gets a little wet the ball comes on the bat well. The pitch will not always be extremely flat. It will dry out a bit. The pitch was a little slow due to the heat but it was not a pitch with uneven bounce.”

Pathan further said, “Suryakumar Yadav Looked like the only batsman who could win the match. He got out trying to play a shot and then Mitchell Starc took a big wicket (of Tim David). The match ended there – Suryakumar Yadav’s wicket and then Tim David’s wicket. This team does not seem to be playing united at all.”

Talking about the match, Mumbai captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and invited KKR to bat first at Wankhede Stadium. KKR, who came to bowl first, had a very bad start and the team lost five wickets for just 57 runs. Manish Pandey (42 runs on 31 balls) and experienced batsman Venkatesh Iyer (70 runs on 52 balls) made an important partnership of 83 runs on 62 balls.

Because of this partnership, KKR managed to reach the score of 169. In bowling for MI, Nuwan Thushara and Jasprit Bumrah took three wickets each. While chasing the target, Mumbai team kept losing wickets at regular intervals. For Mumbai, Suryakumar Yadav scored the highest score of 56 runs in 35 balls. But the team ultimately had to face defeat by 24 runs.
