Indian female cricketer Shikha Pandey talked about the changes happening in cricket. Recently, during a discussion with former Goa captain Swapnil Asnodkar and Goa Cricket Association President Vipul Phadke, Shikha Pandey gave her reaction on the positive changes taking place in women’s cricket.

The fast bowler stressed the role of tournaments like the Women’s Premier League (WPL). According to her, these new initiatives have opened new avenues for young women cricketers.

Shikha Pandey was quoted by Sportstar as saying, I have played under-19 cricket for just one year, but now we have under-15 tournaments for girls. Then you have Under-23, which has been introduced by the BCCI. Earlier it used to be that after Under-19, all the girls were not able to make a place in the senior team. Sometimes the entire batch was washed away. Now because of the Under-23 tournament they all participate in it.

Parents can also support their dreams

Talking about her early days in cricket, Shikha said, When I started playing cricket, I had many other friends who were really good, but they could not continue playing further because they could not support their parents. Couldn’t convince.

However, things have changed now, he said. Now with the WPL and many other tournaments happening, girls as young as five see a female cricketer playing on TV. And they too can dream big. Parents can also support their dreams.

Second season of WPL this time in February

Talking about Women’s Premier League, its second season can be played this time in New Delhi and Bangalore. It is noteworthy that the first season was played in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. However, this time there is every possibility of the tournament going to another city. The second season of WPL can start this time in the last week of February.
