Australia opener Usman Khawaja has taken a very noble decision. He has decided to auction his “All Lives Are Equal” shoes. He himself has given this information through his social media handle. Proceeds from the shoe auction will be donated to the children of Gaza.

Khawaja (Usman Khawaja) posted pictures on Instagram and wrote, “Listen everyone. I would like to announce that I am auctioning off my shoes… all proceeds will go to the ‘UNICEF Children of Gaza’ appeal. Children need your help now more than ever and thank you as always for your support and generosity. You all have been amazing.”

Usman Khawaja had appeared in the first Test wearing a black armband in support of Palestine without taking permission from the ICC. In the second Test also, Khawaja came out wearing “All Lives are Equal” written on his shoes.

Last week, Khawaja released a series of T-shirts featuring his Bane shoes with messages like “All Lives Are Equal”, “Freedom is a Human Right”. Let us tell you that ICC had banned him from wearing shoes during Australia’s Test series against Pakistan citing the context of the ongoing Israel-Palestine dispute.

The Pakistan-born cricketer faced an ICC rebuke for wearing a black armband without official approval in the Perth Test. Furthermore, in Melbourne he was also barred from displaying the dove symbol on his shoes.

Khawaja then criticized the ICC, accusing it of “double standards” in rule enforcement regarding political symbols. He clarified that the black stripe symbolizes “personal mourning” and questioned the continuity of the rules.
