Veteran player Veda Krishnamurthy believes that Pooja Vastrakar has performed better than expected in the ongoing India Women vs South Africa Women multi-format series. She said that the fast bowler all-rounder has started performing brilliantly in the last 6 years.

The Indian women’s cricket team defeated South Africa 3-0 in the three-match ODI series. After this, the hosts also won the only Test series. Currently, a three-match T20 series is being played between the two teams. In the second T20 match, Pooja Vastrakar took two wickets for 37 runs in four overs. The match was cancelled due to rain but South Africa, batting first, scored 177 runs in 20 overs.

Speaking on Sports18, Veda Krishnamurthy said about Pooja Vastrakar’s bowling spell, ‘You can say that Pooja has performed exactly as expected in this series. It has been 6 years since her debut. As far as I remember, Pooja made her international debut in 2018. There were a lot of expectations from her but she could not live up to them.’

The veteran player further said, ‘I think her confidence has increased a lot after she defended those runs in the second ODI. Since then, her game has improved a lot and she is bowling with a lot of control. She understood her length well and is now working on it.’

Reema Malhotra also gave her opinion on Pooja Vastrakar’s bowling

Reema Malhotra said, ‘Most of her balls were of good length. When you bowl full, you are making mistakes. She used her experience well and bowled with variations. When Renuka Singh Thakur was not playing, her work doubled. In the second match, she was the main bowler of her team.

If Jemima had not dropped the catch, Pooja would have taken three wickets. Pooja bowled very well in this match and constantly put pressure on the South African batsmen. I liked her performance very much.
