In the year 2022, Venkatesh was last seen playing for Team India.
Indian cricket team’s all-rounder player Venkatesh Iyer will soon be seen playing county cricket. Let us tell you that the cricketer has signed a 5-week contract with the county cricket team Lancashire. During this time, he will be seen playing as a foreign player for the team in the Royal ODI Cup and County Championship.
It is worth noting that recently when Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) won the IPL 2024 title, Venkatesh Iyer was also a part of that winning KKR team. However, he has been out of Team India for some time now. In the beginning of the year 2022, he was seen playing for Team India.
On the other hand, joining the county team can play an important role in his return to the Indian cricket team, because before Venkatesh many Indian players have joined county teams.
Recently, Ajinkya Rahane signed a short-term contract with Leicestershire County Cricket Club. However, Venkatesh will join Lancashire for only five weeks as he will have to return home to participate in the upcoming Duleep Trophy.
Venkatesh Iyer’s big statement came out
So after joining Lancashire Cricket Club, Venkatesh Iyer said- I am very excited to get the opportunity to go to England and play county cricket for the first time in my career. Lancashire is a very historic county cricket club which has a long history of welcoming Indian players to its club. I am ready to play in the rose color at Emirates Old Trafford like players like Farooq Engineer, Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman and recently Washington Sundar.
Venkatesh Iyer further said- Testing my skills in both ODI and first-class cricket in English conditions will really benefit my game. I hope I can entertain the fans and help my Lancashire teammates achieve their goals in both formats this summer.
