Veteran umpire Marais Erasmus has said goodbye to his 17-year long umpiring career. Let us tell you, Marais Erasmus will be seen umpiring in international cricket for the last time in the second Test between Australia and New Zealand starting from March 10 in Christchurch. Australia won the first test match between these two teams. Australia is leading 1-0 in the two-match Test series.

Marais Erasmus is counted among the best umpires in the world. There are many important international matches in which Marais Erasmus has umpired. Not only this, his decisions on the cricket field have mostly proved to be correct. There are many coaches and players who respect him a lot. Not only this, even as an umpire, Marais Erasmus has a huge fan following all over the world.

Marais Erasmus was included in the elite panel of umpires in 2010. Not only this, Marais Erasmus has won the famous David Shepherd Trophy ICC Umpire of the Year thrice i.e. in 2016, 2017, 2021.

Marais Erasmus has umpired in four ICC Men’s Cricket World Cups, seven ICC Men’s T20 World Cups, three ICC Women’s T20 World Cups and two ICC Men’s Champions Trophy tournaments. He was one of the on-field umpires for the 2019 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Final between England and New Zealand as well as the last two ICC Men’s T20 World Cup finals in 2021 and 2022.

According to ICC Cricket, before his final Test, Marais Erasmus said, ‘I had a great time in the elite panel and umpired in many great matches around the world. I feel very happy that I have spent my best time among so many people. There are many people whom I will miss a lot but I will continue to contribute to this game in a different way.
