India started the series in a great way by defeating host Sri Lanka by 43 runs in the first T20 International match at Pallekele on Saturday. Batting first, the Indian batsmen scored more than 200 and put the home team under pressure. Then Yashasvi Jaiswal joined the field through video call and Ajay Jadeja asked what difference does it make when Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are on the field? Before Yashasvi could answer this question, Nehra jumped in and laughingly said that as Jadeja asked what difference does it make when Rohit-Virat are on the field… so I think whatever strokes I have seen of yours, you would have had to play them in the nets. In this match, the pair of Yashasvi Jaiswal (40) and Shubman Gill (34) gave a stormy start to Team India, batting first, adding 74 runs in the first 6 overs. After this, captain Suryakumar Yadav wreaked havoc and scored 58 runs in 26 balls. India put 213 runs on the board for the loss of 7 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. The Sri Lankan team, chasing the target of 214 runs, got a stormy start from the opening pair of Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis (45) and added 84 runs for the first wicket. But after the dismissal of both the batsmen, the Sri Lankan team kept losing wickets at regular intervals. In the end, the host team collapsed for 170 runs in 19.2 overs. For India, Riyan Parag took three wickets for five runs in 1.2 overs. Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel took two wickets each.
