In a thrilling match on 18 April in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Mumbai Indians defeated Punjab Kings by 9 runs. In this match played at Yadvindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Chandigarh, Punjab Kings needed 12 runs to win in the last over and they had one wicket in their hand. Akash Madhwal was bowling for Mumbai.

Chasing the target of 193 runs, the Kings’ innings was faltering at one point at 14/4. They kept losing wickets at regular intervals but Ashutosh Sharma’s innings of 61 runs in 28 balls gave them hope of winning the match. In the last over, the host team needed 12 runs to win. The responsibility of making Mumbai win was given to Akash Madhwal.

Akash Madhwal was seen talking to Rohit Sharma instead of Hardik regarding field setting.

Before bowling the last over, Madhwal had given 44 runs in his first three overs and did not get any wicket. Hardik also had an option for Romario Shepherd but he showed confidence in Madhwal. The Baroda all-rounder had a long discussion with the talented fast bowler as he wanted to set a good field for this over. But later it seemed that Rohit did not like the field placement and he went to the bowler and captain to talk about it.

Actually, a video of Akash Madhwal, Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya setting the fielding before the last over is going viral. Seeing this video, it seems that Akash is completely ignoring captain Hardik Pandya and talking to former captain Rohit Sharma about the fielding position.

After seeing this scene, many people gave their opinion on it. Fast bowler Akash Madhwal tried to start the over with a wide yorker, but he could not control the line and thus Punjab Kings got an extra run. While trying to take two runs on the next ball, Kagiso Rabada was run out and in the end, somehow Mumbai Indians won the match by 9 runs.
