Warne is counted among some of the greatest spin bowlers in world cricket
Australia’s late former cricketer Shane Warne is known as the magician of spin, who used to make the ball dance to his tunes. Warne is the one who bowled the ball of century in cricket. Warne had such magic of spin in his hands that even the best players could not play him easily.
Warne took 708 wickets in 145 Test matches and 293 wickets in 194 ODIs for Australia. Although he never played T20 International cricket for Australia, he had played 73 T20 matches in tournaments like IPL and Big Bash League. During this period, he took a total of 70 wickets at an average of 26.61.
Apart from making the ball dance to his tunes, he was known for playing mind games on the field. Warne used to know in advance which shot the batsman was going to play. He used this specialty of his in a match during the Big Bash League in 2011, when he went one step ahead of the batsman on strike.
So this batsman was none other than former New Zealand cricket team captain and explosive batsman Brendon McCullum. Let us tell you that a match was being played between Brisbane Heat and Melbourne Stars on Brisbane ground that season. At that time Warne, who was playing for the Stars, was continuously talking to the commentators with a microphone, and during this he predicted the shots to be played by McCullum and bowled the same type of ball to him so that he could counter them.
During the match, a commentator asked Shane Warne, “What about McCullum, Shane?” McCullum replied to the commentator, “Maybe after the first shot he will play a sweep shot or play with force from inside-out. So here I want to try and bowl him a fast ball that slides.”
McCullum then plays a sweep shot against Warne; since Warne knew he was going to do so, he bowls a fast delivery which lands straight between leg and middle stump and hits the off stump.
