Virat Kohli is one of those players who has participated in every edition of IPL. Apart from this, he has represented Royal Challengers Bangalore since its inception. RCB included him in the inaugural edition of the season in 2008 for Rs 12 lakh. After this Virat never looked back.

Kohli started his IPL career with a good salary, which remained the same for him for the first three seasons (2008–2010). However, 2011 saw a tremendous increase in his IPL salary. RCB recognized his potential and retained him for Rs 8.28 crore.

After this, the franchise made him the full time captain in 2013. The next season saw an increase of Rs 12.5 crore in Kohli’s IPL salary. The 2016 season was Kohli’s best as he scored a record-breaking 973 runs with four centuries, helping RCB reach the final.

Salary cut during the season affected by Covid epidemic

Due to this incredible performance, his salary saw a further increase in 2018. When he became the most expensive player of the league with a salary of Rs 17 crore and this salary remained intact till 2021. It is worth noting that during the 2022 season affected by the Covid pandemic, Kohli voluntarily accepted a cut in his salary, in which he received an amount of Rs 15 crore.

Now for the last three seasons, Delhi born players have been playing on the same salary. Let us tell you that in the 2022 season, the experienced player resigned from the role of captaincy and handed it over to Faf du Plessis to focus completely on batting. In the same year, he continued his dominance and scored 741 runs in the next season.

With the retention deadline of 2025 approaching, Virat Kohli is expected to be retained for Rs 18 crore. There is also news that he is interested in captaining RCB again in the upcoming season.
