In the match played at Harare Sports Club ground, after winning the toss and batting first, Team India scored 182 runs in 20 overs on the basis of Captain Gill’s half century. While chasing this target, half of Zimbabwe’s team was out on 39 runs. However, on the basis of Myers’ half century, the team managed to avoid a shameful defeat in this match. Zimbabwe’s team could only reach 159 runs on the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs.
Washington Sundar took the maximum 3 wickets in bowling for Team India and also won the Player of the Match award. Man of the Match Washington Sundar said- ‘To be honest, it feels very good. This pitch was very good for bowling. Earlier also, bowlers have got help in both the matches.’
Does Washington Sundar want to replace Ravindra Jadeja?
Washington was named Player of the Match, which will give him a lot of confidence. The 24-year-old was never a regular in the Indian team, as the selectors preferred Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel over him. However, after Jadeja’s retirement from the shortest format of the game, there is scope for Washington to cement his position in the T20I team.
Though the Chennai-born cricketer is not focused on playing Jadeja’s role, he is ready to give his 100% whenever the national team needs him. He says he wants to prepare well and be there for the team whenever needed.
“I need to perform where I am good and what I am capable of, especially with my preparation. I have to give my 100 per cent every day. That is something I have not compromised on.”
“It is a huge opportunity for me to play for India and I am blessed with it. I have to keep doing my job, keep preparing and keep getting better. That way everything will be taken care of.”
