India’s Test captain Rohit Sharma has given an update on the recovery of fast bowler Mohammed Shami, who has been out of action since suffering an ankle injury in the 2023 ODI World Cup. Rohit said that it is not certain whether Shami will be a part of Team India in the Test series starting in Australia from next month. Recently, when a report came out about Mohammed Shami that his knee had become swollen during rehab, he was very angry at the media.
He had slammed the media by writing a post on social media and termed all the reports in which Shami was injured as baseless. However, now captain Rohit Sharma himself has told that Shami had a knee injury. It is not possible to say right now whether he will be able to play in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to be held against Australia or not.
Rohit Sharma gave a big update on Mohammed Shami’s injury.
Rohit Sharma said in the press conference before the Bengaluru Test match, “To be honest, it is difficult to select him for the Australia series. He suffered another injury and his knees were swollen. This worsened his condition a bit and he had to start over. He is at NCA (National Cricket Academy, Bengaluru) with doctors and physios. We do not want to take unfit Shami to Australia. We are hoping that Shami can be taken to Australia.”
Hitman further said, “It is very difficult for a fast bowler because he has missed a lot of cricket and then suddenly to perform at his best, it is not ideal. We want to give him enough time to recover and be 100 percent fit. Physio, trainer, doctors have prepared a roadmap for him. He should play some (practice) matches before playing international cricket.”
Mohammed Shami has played 64 Test matches for India, in which he has taken 229 wickets at an impressive average of 27.71. India will play five Test matches in Australia from November 22. Fans are eagerly waiting for Shami’s return.
