Afghanistan head coach Jonathan Trott says there are a lot of areas the team needs to work on.
T20 World Cup 2024: The Afghanistan cricket team had a great start to the tournament by winning all three matches of the group stage. The team defeated Uganda and Papua New Guinea and registered a big win against New Zealand. But in the last match of the group stage against hosts West Indies, Afghanistan had to face a humiliating defeat by 104 runs.
In the match, West Indies batted first and scored 218 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. In response, Afghanistan was all out for 114 runs in 16.2 overs while chasing the target. After this defeat, the team now has to face India on June 20 in the first match of the Super-8 round.
Afghanistan is part of Group 1 along with Australia, Bangladesh and India. Before the match against India, head coach Jonathan Trott said that there are many areas on which the team needs to work.
Jonathan Trott furious at the team’s performance against West Indies
Head coach Jonathan Trott is very disappointed with both Afghanistan’s batting and bowling in the match against West Indies. Speaking at the post-match presentation after the match, he said, ‘We need to work a lot on, if we don’t start an over well, then be able to get out of an over and try to stop it.
Jonathan Trott further said, ‘Today we had a total of two overs in which 60 runs were scored and this changed the course of the game to a great extent. There is a lot of pressure in the next 18 overs, although this is the reality, this is the black and white part of the game. Yes, in terms of batting, I am disappointed, and we could not get even a little closer to the target.’
