What happened in the final of T20 World Cup 2007
Chasing the target of 158 runs given by India, Pakistan needed 13 runs in the last over to win. Here the new captain of the team MS Dhoni had to decide who to give this over to between Joginder Sharma and Harbhajan Singh. Since Harbhajan was hit for three sixes by Misbah in the previous over, Dhoni decided to give the last over to Joginder.
After this, Joginder’s plan was very simple that he had to keep the ball away from Misbah-ul-Haq who was on strike and bowl a wide sound yorker. However, the first ball of this last over was wide and the second ball was a dot. But after this when Joginder bowled the third ball to Misbah, it was a full toss and Misbah hit a great six on the ball. Pakistan needed 6 runs in 4 balls to win at this time, it seemed that Pakistan would win the match.
But Dhoni kept talking to Joginder after every ball and repeatedly said that it was just a matter of one wicket. Then Joginder bowled the third ball slowly, on which Misbah got caught by Sreesanth while scooping and Team India won the first T20 World Cup by 5 runs.
