Vimal Kumar narrated a story related to the launch of his book ‘Sachin: Cricketer of the Century’ in an episode of ‘2 Slaggers’ on YouTube. He told how he convinced MS Dhoni to come to the book launch. Vimal Kumar had to play the emotional card with Dhoni so that Dhoni would agree to attend his book launch.
Dhoni’s heart winning style
Vimal Kumar said, “I told Dhoni that my father does not know much about cricket, but he recognizes you and Sachin Tendulkar. My father said he will come only if you are there.”
To this Dhoni laughed and said, “Now you are playing the emotional card?!”
And then Dhoni accepted Vimal’s request.
Simplicity of Sachin and Dhoni:
Dhoni not only agreed to attend Vimal Kumar’s book launch, but also ensured that Vimal Kumar does not have to spend too much on travel. He suggested that he travel in the same car with Sachin Tendulkar, so that extra expenses can be avoided.
He further told about the event
“When Sachin and Dhoni came out of the car together, I was so impressed with Sachin that I forgot Dhoni was also there. Later I apologised to him and Dhoni brushed it off saying ‘I can understand because it was my moment’. After that all three of us laughed.”
Dhoni touched the feet of Vimal Kumar’s father
The most beautiful moment of the book launch came when MS Dhoni touched the feet of Vimal Kumar’s father and took his blessings. Vimal told, “Dhoni touched my father’s feet before taking the book, and this surprised the media. He talked with my family for 40-45 minutes in the regional language, which made them feel that Dhoni is a very close friend of mine.”
