James Anderson, who established himself as the most successful fast bowler in the history of Test cricket, has announced his retirement. He himself informed that Anderson will retire after playing the Test match against West Indies. Let us tell you that Anderson will retire after the first Test against West Indies. This match starts on July 10.
James Anderson announced his retirement in a post on Instagram. In this he wrote-
“I am writing this post to say that the first Test of the summer at Lord’s will be my last Test. I have had an incredible 20 years playing the game I love and representing my country. I will always remember those moments of stepping down to play for England. But I know now is the right time to stop and let others fulfill their dreams.”
Brian Lara praised James Anderson
As Anderson prepares to retire, former West Indies great Brian Lara has come forward to pay tribute to Anderson. Lara revealed that Anderson is the best bowler he has ever faced.
It is worth noting that Anderson has 700 wickets to his name and one of those wickets he took was against Brian Lara. He took this wicket at the Oval in 2004 and Brian Lara praised Anderson for that ball and his career. Lara said on BBC Breakfast-
“He bowled one of the best balls I ever bowled. He was the last English bowler to get me out. It was my last Test against England at the Oval. It was a little in-swinger that I set up to hit through mid-on and it pitched and straightened and took the edge of my bat.”
