There is an ongoing discussion about who will be the next T20 captain of the Indian team after Rohit Sharma’s retirement from T20I. Hardik Pandya was the vice-captain of Team India during the T20 World Cup 2024 and hence it was believed that he would lead the team after Rohit. But now reports have surfaced that SuryaKumar Yadav is the first choice of new head coach Gautam Gambhir as the T20 captain.

He made GT the champion in their very first edition and took them to the finals in the second season. After two good seasons with GT, he joined Mumbai Indians this year and the franchise made him the captain. But under Hardik’s captaincy, MI could win only 4 out of 14 matches.

He was criticized a lot then and was also trolled a lot during the tournament. However, the all-rounder silenced everyone with his performance in the T20 World Cup. In IPL 2024, Hardik took 11 wickets along with scoring 216 runs in 13 matches, but in the T20 World Cup, apart from scoring 144 runs in 6 innings, he also took 11 wickets in 8 matches.

According to reports, Hardik Pandya’s injuries in the past had an impact on the team combination. For this reason, Gautam Gambhir is in favor of making a player the captain who remains in the team regularly.
