Former South African fast bowler Morne Morkel has been appointed as the new bowling coach of Team India. Morkel will join head coach Gautam Gambhir, assistant coaches Abhishek Nair and Ryan ten Doeschate and fielding coach T Dilip in the new coaching staff.

Although his duties will begin from September 1, his first assignment with the Indian team will be from September 19 when India take on Bangladesh for the first Test of the upcoming series in Chennai.

Gambhir wanted Morne Morkel to become the bowling coach of Team India

Let us tell you that, Morne Morkel has been appointed as the bowling coach of the Indian men’s cricket team as per the wish of head coach Gautam Gambhir. Now After Morne Morkel was appointed the bowling coach of Team India, a six-year-old video of Gambhir has gone viral in which he is praising Morkel.

In this clip, Gambhir has expressed his desire to include Morkel in his Indian Premier League (IPL) team as well. Now that Morkel has been appointed as India’s new bowling coach, this video is spreading like wildfire on the internet as to why Gambhir likes him.

In a 2017 episode of Breakfast with Champions, the show host asked Gambhir who was the most dangerous bowler he had faced so far. Without thinking, Gambhir named Morne Morkel.

Gambhir revealed that facing Morkel was so challenging that he tried to bring him to KKR after playing against Morkel when the latter was with Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals).

“That’s why I bought him, honestly that’s why we included him in KKR as well. I thought he was the toughest bowler I have faced. Get him in your team. When he was playing for Delhi, every time I faced him, I would come back and say I wish we had Morne Morkel.”
