Jitesh has played 9 T20 International matches for India, in which he has scored 100 runs at an average of 14.28 and an excellent strike rate of 147.05.
Indian young wicketkeeper-batsman Jitesh Sharma impressed everyone with his performance in the IPL and due to this he got a chance in Team India. However, in the 2024 IPL, Jitesh could score only 187 runs in 12 innings. During this period his strike rate was also only 131.6.
Now meanwhile, Jitesh has revealed that he was thinking a lot about the T20 World Cup 2024 during the tournament, due to which his performance in IPL 2024 was disappointing. He also revealed that he was in India’s plans, but did not get a chance due to the abundance of wicketkeeper-batsmen in the team.
Speaking to India TV, Jitesh said, “When the IPL started, I was thinking a lot about the World Cup and perhaps that is why I could not focus much on the given match.”
I too would have given priority to both of them – Jitesh Sharma
“I have no shame in admitting it,” he confessed. It is what it is. I couldn’t think clearly because the World Cup selection was on my mind. The moment the team was selected, my batting got much better. I felt more open, I knew I wasn’t in the team, because I knew I had to focus and score runs. So I managed to play 2-3 good innings till the end of the tournament.”
Jitesh Sharma further said, “If I were a selector, I would not have selected myself at that time because Rishabh Pant came back and proved himself and the form Sanju Bhai was in, I would not have selected myself. I too would have given priority to both of them.”
