I think the position of England white-ball head coach is an exciting prospect for anyone- Kumar Sangakkara
Head coach Matthew Pott has resigned from his post after England’s poor performance in the ODI World Cup and T20 World Cup 2024. Assistant coach Marcus Trescothick has been appointed as the interim head coach for the white ball home series against Australia in September.
There is a lot of discussion going on in the cricket world about who will be the new white ball cricket head coach of England. The names of many former great players are coming forward, one of which is Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara.
Gave a big statement about becoming the head coach of England
Rajasthan Royals head coach Kumar Sangakkara has worked with England’s white ball captain Jos Buttler during the IPL. Sangakkara says that it would be exciting to become the head coach of England in limited overs, but so far he has not received any formal offer for this role.
According to NDTV, Kumar Sangakkara said,
Well, I know (my name) has been coming up for some reason, but there’s been no approach as such. I think the position of England’s white-ball head coach is an exciting prospect for anyone, but there are a lot of good candidates out there. I think Matthew Mott has done a really good job.
Kumar Sangakkara further expressed happiness over Jos Buttler’s continuation as white-ball captain. He also praised Rob Key, Managing Director of England Men’s Cricket Team. Sangakkara further said,
It’s great that Josh Buttle remains in the leadership role as the team moves forward, it’s a good time to look at what the team is – and was – and how it wants to progress in the future. I think the decision-making process in the England camp has been spot on. I’ve been really impressed with Rob… I think he’s a really smart and practical guy, very sensible in the way he makes decisions.
