Former Indian batsman Robin Uthappa believes that Chennai Super Kings (CSK) legend MS Dhoni will want to come back and play in the next season of the IPL after being ruled out of the 2024 edition against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on May 18. RCB defeated CSK by 27 runs in this match and confirmed their place in the playoffs. With this defeat, CSK’s journey this season ended.
Dhoni was in excellent form throughout the season, but due to a knee injury he was not able to bat in the upper order in any match. Nevertheless, the 42-year-old finished the season with an average of 53.66 and a strike rate of 220.54 in 14 outings. After CSK’s exit from IPL 2024, Uthappa spoke about Dhoni’s future on JioCinema.
This will not be MS Dhoni’s last IPL season – Robin Uthappa
He said, “I don’t think we have seen the last of MS. He is not someone who takes these things lightly. He will definitely come back roaring. Even with the story, I have seen him bat only in the last 4 or 5 overs, there is a reason for that.
He had a calf injury which he initially thought was probably a minor injury, but it forced him to pull himself together and, as he often does, in international cricket and for CSK, he tried to be useful and Figured out a way to contribute for CSK.”
Regarding MS Dhoni’s retirement, Suresh Raina told Geo Cinema, “Rituraj Gaikwad needs more time to mature, so MS Dhoni should play one more season.” Now amidst all this, it will be interesting to see whether MS Dhoni plays in the next IPL season or not.
