Dodda Ganesh’s first assignment was to coach the Kenya team in the ICC Division 2 Challenge League which was scheduled to begin this month.
Former India cricketer Dodda Ganesh was appointed the head coach of the Kenya team on 14 August 2024. However, within a month, he has been sacked by Cricket Kenya with immediate effect.
When Dodda Ganesh was appointed the head coach of the Kenyan team, he said that his goal is that the national team should qualify for both the T20 and ODI World Cups but before that it is very important for them to practice hard.
According to ESPNcricinfo, Dodda Ganesh had said, ‘Our first goal will be to qualify for the T20 and ODI World Cups. However, before that we have to start preparing for it. We have started preparing for it and things are looking quite good. There is very little time left for the first tournament and I am watching the local league matches. There will also be fitness tests of the players and all the players are gradually getting better.’
Dodda Ganesh’s first task was to coach the Kenya team in the ICC Division 2 Challenge League which was to start this month. Lameck Onyango and Joseph Angara will resume their duties as coaches for the 2027 Challenge League Group A round in September. According to a report by InsideSport, Cricket Kenya passed a resolution declaring the contract originally signed with Ganesh on August 7 as invalid.
Cricket Kenya’s Director of Women’s Cricket Pearlyne Omami has signed a letter which reads, ‘Under a resolution of the Executive Board of Cricket Kenya passed on Wednesday, 28 August 2024, and under Articles 5.9 and 8.4.3 of the Cricket Kenya Constitution, we wish to inform you that the Executive Board has refused to confirm your appointment as the Head Coach of the Men’s Cricket National Team due to non-compliance with established procedures.
