UP Warriors defeated Gujarat Giants by 6 wickets and achieved their second consecutive win.
WPL 2024, UP-W vs GUJ-W: The 8th match of the Women’s Premier League 2024 was played between UP Warriors and Gujarat Giants. UP Warriors captain Alyssa Healy won the toss and decided to bowl first. Batting first, Gujarat Giants scored 142 runs at the loss of 5 wickets.
UP Warriors team chased the target with 26 balls remaining on the strength of Grace Harris’ brilliant innings and won by 6 wickets. This is UP Warriors’ second consecutive win in the tournament, while Gujarat Giants’ third consecutive defeat.
WPL 2024: Gujarat Giants could not show much strength in batting
Gujarat Giants team, which came to bat first against UP Warriors, got a good start. There was a 40-run partnership for the first wicket between Laura Wolvaardt and Beth Mooney. But then Sophie Ecclestone dismissed both the openers. Beth Mooney was out in the 6th over after scoring 16 runs and Laura Wolvaardt was out in the 10th over after scoring 28 runs. Ashley Gardner played an inning of 30 runs in 17 balls with the help of 4 fours and 1 six.
Whereas Phoebe Litchfield played the highest innings for the team of 35 runs in 26 balls with the help of 4 fours and 1 six. Phoebe Litchfield was run out by Saima Thakor in the 19th over. For UP Warriors, Sophie Ecclestone took the maximum of 3 wickets for 20 runs in 4 overs. Whereas Rajeshwari Gaikwad had 1 wicket in her name.
Grace Harris played a brilliant innings
While chasing the target against Gujarat Giants, UP Warriors opener Kiran Navgire and Alyssa Healy had a partnership of 42 runs. Kiran Navgire lost her wicket against Tanuja Kanwar after scoring 12 runs in the fifth over. Then Alyssa Healy became the victim of Katherine Bryce in the sixth over. Alyssa Healy played an inning of 33 runs in 21 balls with the help of 7 fours. After which Grace Harris took charge of the team.
Grace Harris played an unbeaten inning of 60 runs in 33 balls with the help of 9 fours and 2 sixes, and led the team to victory. Deepti Sharma made an important contribution by playing an unbeaten inning of 17 runs. For Gujarat Giants, Tunja Kanwar took the maximum of 2 wickets for 23 runs in 3 overs.
