Delhi Capitals defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by 1 run to secure a place in the playoffs.

WPL 2024, DEL-W vs BAN-W: The 17th match of the Women’s Premier League 2024 was played between Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Delhi Capitals captain Meg Lanning had won the toss and decided to bat first. Batting first, Delhi Capitals put 181 runs on the board at the loss of 5 wickets.

Chasing the target, Royal Challengers Bangalore could only score 180 runs at the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs and Delhi Capitals won by 1 run. With this win, Delhi Capitals has reached the playoffs.

Jemimah Rodriguez played half-century innings for Delhi

Delhi Capitals got a great start against Royal Challengers Bangalore. There was a partnership of 54 runs for the first wicket between Meg Lanning and Shefali Verma. Shefali Verma lost her wicket against Asha Shobhana after scoring 23 runs in 18 balls in the 7th over. Whereas Meg Lanning became the victim of Shreyanka Patil after scoring 29 runs in the 8th over. After which there was a partnership of 97 runs between Jemimah Rodriguez and Alice Capsey for the third wicket.

Jemimah Rodriguez played an inning of 58 runs in 36 balls with the help of 8 fours and 1 six. Whereas Alice Capsey scored 48 runs in 32 balls with the help of 8 fours. For Royal Challengers Bangalore, Shreyanka Patil took 4 wickets for 26 runs in 4 overs. Shreyanka Patil made Meg Lanning (29), Jemimah Rodriguez (58), Alice Capsey (48) and Jess Jonassen (1) her victims.

Richa Ghosh could not lead the team to victory

Royal Challengers Bangalore, while chasing the target, got a bad start. In the very second over, captain Smriti Mandhana lost her wicket against Alice Capsey for 5 runs. There was a partnership of 80 runs for the second wicket between Ellyse Perry and Sophie Molineau. Ellyse Perry was run out by Shikha Pandey for 49 runs in the 11th over, after which Sophie Molineau returned to the pavilion after scoring 33 runs in the very next over. Sophie Devine became the victim of Marizanne Kapp for 26 runs in the 18th over.

After which all the responsibility was on Richa Ghosh, in the last over RCB needed 17 runs to win. Richa Ghosh hit two sixes in the last over and took the team to the threshold of victory. Two runs were needed on the last ball, but Richa Ghosh was run out. Then Delhi Capitals won by 1 run. Richa Ghosh played an inning of 51 runs in 29 balls with the help of 4 fours and 3 sixes.
