Royal Challengers Bangalore won the title by defeating Delhi Capitals by 8 wickets in the final match of WPL 2024. Smriti Mandhana’s team has given the IPL trophy to RCB for the first time. Batting first in a low scoring match, DC scored 113 runs losing all the wickets. In response, RCB achieved the target in 19.3 overs after losing two wickets.

RCB spinners destroyed Delhi

DC, who came to bat first after winning the toss, had a great start and Shefali Verma and Meg Lanning took the team’s score beyond 50 in the powerplay. But Sophie Molineau changed the course of the match by taking three wickets in the 8th over. He dismissed Shefali on the first ball. Shefali scored 44 runs in 27 balls with the help of two fours and 3 sixes.

After this, Sophie showed the way to the pavilion to Jemimah Rodrigues (0) on the third ball and Alice Capsey (0) on the fourth ball. In the 11th over, Shreyanka Patil pushed Delhi Capitals on the backfoot by dismissing captain Meg Lanning (23). RCB spinners maintained pressure on the opposition team till the end.

The Shreyanka-Shobhana duo bowled economically in the last overs and bowled out Delhi for just 113 runs. While Shreyanka Patil took 4 wickets for just 12 runs in 3.3 overs, Molineau took 3 wickets for 20 runs in a spell of 4 overs. Asha Shobhana had two wickets to her name.

RCB achieved the target easily

Chasing the target of 114 runs, the Royal Challengers Bangalore team made a steady start. Openers Sophie Devine and Smriti Mandhana spent time at the crease and added 49 runs for the first wicket. Devine was looking very aggressive, but became the victim of Shikha Pandey on the first ball of the 9th over. He hit 5 fours and a six in his innings of 32 runs.

Mandhana then took the innings forward with Ellyse Perry. There was a partnership of 33 runs between the two for the second wicket. This partnership was broken by Minnu Mani by dismissing Smriti Mandhana. The RCB captain scored 31 runs in 39 balls with the help of 3 fours.

After Smriti’s dismissal, Ellyse Perry and Richa Ghosh took the team to the target without taking any risk. Perry once again played a match winning innings. He played an unbeaten inning of 35 runs, which included 4 fours. Whereas Richa scored 17 unbeaten runs.

First IPL trophy for RCB

Smriti Mandhana has become the first captain to lead the Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise to their first IPL trophy. This is also a very happy occasion for RCB fans and they reacted fiercely on social media.
