England defeated Pakistan by an innings and 47 runs in the first match of the series.

After winning the toss and opting to bat first, Pakistan team scored 556 runs on the basis of centuries from Abdullah Shafiq, Shan Masood and Agha Salman. In response, England declared their innings by scoring 823 runs with the help of Harry Brook’s triple century and Joe Root’s double century. The England team, which had a lead of 267 runs after the first innings, all out the hosts for 220 runs in the second innings. England won this match by a margin of innings and 47 runs.
